When you setup a Windows SharePoint Services web site with ICS you
have two options of associating URL's with your site.
-
Standard URL's
-
Personalized URL's
A standard URL uses our domain name with a site name that you
choose to make up the URL of your Windows SharePoint web site. For example, if
you select 'electronics' as your site name, then
your URL would be - 'http://wss.icscentral.com/electronics'
A personalized URL allows you to use a top-level domain name
to associate with your Windows SharePoint web site. For example you could use 'http://www.mydomain.com'
or 'http://sharepoint.mydomain.com' as your URL.
When you select to use a personalized URL with your Windows
SharePoint web site you must first register and host the domain name, and then
you must create an 'A' record for the domain and point it to our service. The
following section describes how to configure a personalized URL for your new
Windows SharePoint web site.
Configuring a Personalized URL for your New Windows SharePoint web
site.
Introduction
A personalized URL will allow you to access your Windows SharePoint
web site with a URL other than 'http://wss.icscentral.com/mysite'.
For example, you might want to use 'http://www.mycompany.com'
as your URL for accessing your Windows SharePoint web site.
Note: If ICS host your domain name then an 'A' record will
automatically be created when you select your personalized URL. If ICS does not
host your domain name then you will have to contact the registrar for your
domain and have them create an 'A' record and point it to the following IP
Address:
206.127.14.11
Step 1 - Registering your Domain Name
If your domain name is already registered through a third party,
please continue
to Step 2.
The first step in using a personalized URL is registering a domain
name. ICS can register the domain name for you. To register a domain name
please click here.
It usually takes between 24 to 48 hours for registration of a domain
name to complete. If you registered your domain with ICS than you do not
need to proceed to Step 2. If your domain name was registered through a third
party please continue to Step 2.
This step involves configuring what is known as an 'A'
record for your domain name to point to the IP Address of our service.
In order to use your domain name with our Windows
SharePoint hosting service, you would create an 'A' record and point it to the
following IP Address.
206.127.14.11
Once the change to the 'A' record has been made, you may need to wait
as long as 72 hours for this change to propagate throughout the internet's
domain name system. This will especially be true if the host name you are
selecting already exist and you are changing the IP Address of the 'A' record.
When you create a new Windows SharePoint web site with the
personalized URL option, our system will automatically verify that these
changes have been made to the domain name. If these changes are not complete
then our system will not be able to setup your site.
